Remember the awkward ‘Married at First Sight’ couple…

… no, not those - that was a disaster! The other two…

 … well, they’ve split up.

When we saw adverts for Channel 4's real-life series, Married At First Sight last year, we didn't know what to expect but we loved it. Read their story so far.

Two couples married – firstly Jason and Kate who had their marriage annulled just weeks after the ceremony based on the fact they'd never consummated it and he was on Tinder - maybe not given as the official reason but it’s a good enough reason to us!

Then there was 32-year-old Emma Rathbone and 33-year-old James Ord-Hume who awkwardly hit it off, but as friends or as something more romantic wasn’t clear. But after a little time the couple did give it a go and chose to remain married – tissue please!

Now, 34 weeks later we find out they’ve split up and we’re not afraid to admit it we’re a little devastated. We’ll be fine. Fine! We just really wanted this one to work out!

Emma said in a recent interview, "We really did want it to work. We gave it our best shot"
It turns out it was James who ended the marriage. "I told her I wasn't in love with her and I felt we needed to draw a line under things" he said. But he wasn't alone in his feelings Emma said, "It was actually quite a relief, although very sad. I really thought meeting the way we did meant we stood a chance, as nothing else I'd tried had."

So while the couple did have sex during their relationship, it wasn't something they were hugely "passionate" about and their lack of physical attraction to one another was something that came between them – no amount of science can explain it.

They both said, "We like and respect each other too much to let it get that bad," and intend to remain friends.

Good luck Emma and James x
Because love can't be planned and that’s why it’s special.

When is it OK to have sex? Hold hands? Meet the parents?

A recent study have revealed a timeline of a ‘typical’ relationship – it says that the six month mark is often seen as make or break time in a relationship, why? Because this is when three key relationship milestones take place: the revealing of one’s imperfections i.e. smoking (173 days), the first argument (170 days) and when most parental introductions take place (24%).

Source, Match

The survey looked at over 2,000 men and women to map out the average dating journey, from first meeting to having children - as well as uncovering the secret of the six month rule along the way.
I called on the team here at Flirtify HQ to reveal their dating journeys and see how they compare…

Jill Harrison
Jill and Steve have been together 4 years and 8 months. They met when she was 19 and he was 20.

• No makeup? 12 hours roughly
• Reveal an imperfection? Straight away
• Go for a night away together? 1 month
• Go on holiday together? 3 months (with his family)
• Buy a pet? Sob sob not yet!
• Moved in? Moved in together after 2 years and 3 months

Plans for the future – a dog!

Sam Grainger (You'll remember him from the difficulties of being a tall boyfriend).
Sam and Becky have been together 3 years – yesterday! They met when he was 22 and Becky was 20.

• No makeup? Next day ;)
• Reveal an imperfection? I am perfect in every way
• Go for a night away together? Can’t remember
• Go on holiday together? Can’t remember
• Buy a pet? No
• Moved in? Rented together after 2 years and 6 months

Plans for the future – save up to buy a house of our own.

Over a quarter (27%) of us wait between 1 and 2 weeks to sleep with their partner whilst 23% wait one month. However 60% would introduce their partner to their best friend within a month. Cheeky!
‘I love you’ happens on average at five months of dating (144 days), with us loved up lot also seeing this as the perfect time to embark on a more modern dating milestone: updating their social media relationship status (157 days).

So what if your relationship isn’t falling within these time frames?

Don’t worry at all. Each relationship moves at its own pace and everyone Is different if no on the surface then underneath. It’s just nice sometimes to have a little reassurance by comparing our experiences with others. We all ask our friends, ‘When did you know your partner was The One?’ or, ‘How long did you wait before you kissed?’ – it’s natural.

Finally, in terms of when people can expect to find love - the research found that 27 is the average age we meet our partners (with women more likely to meet them earlier in life at age 25 than men at 28) and half meet their partner in their 20s in general.

Make you own way, love all of the team here at Flirtify x
