What did one autumn leaf say to another? “I’m falling for you…”

The bad news is it’s getting colder, the weather is wild, and it’s basically dark all of the time. The good news? It’s a great time to get cosy and let the festivities carry you through.

It’s also a great time to get your dating game on before Christmas - though it’s probably best to have a ‘Plan B’ somewhere indoors for when it starts hailing on your romantic woodland picnic. Here’s a few date ideas from the Flirtify team to get you started - and when you're ready to go, save 50% on your subscription* with promo code FLIRTIFY50 here >>

Go on a zombie ‘run’

Get into the Halloween spirit with a zombie experience. Though it’s not one for the faint-hearted, you’ll have a right laugh being chased by zombies, getting infected by zombies, and/or partying with zombies - whatever floats your boat.

Nonetheless, we do suggest getting to know your date a little bit first. Asking whether they have any pre-existing health conditions or phobias might be a good start…

Make s’mores

If they aren’t already, we think s’mores should be the official food of the autumn. Who knew biscuits, marshmallows and chocolate were even more heavenly when they’re hot and squashed together?

No campfire? No problem – heat them up in the microwave, stick them on a fork and point them towards this YouTube video

‘Halloween special’ marathon

For a more manageable marathon in front of the telly, why not replace your usual lengthy movies with loads of Halloween special episodes from some of your favourite TV shows?

For a cheap, cosy night in, grab loads of Halloween-themed food and get watching – our favourite specials are from The Simpsons, Parks and Recreation, Bob’s Burgers and of course, Goosebumps.

Go on a hike

If the rain holds up, it’s a no-brainer to get yourselves outside one last time before the weather gets really poo. Take your date on a walk in the countryside for spectacular views and (hopefully) even more spectacular conversation.

You might need to wear so many jumpers you can’t move your arms, but we’re sure you can style it out.

Give Pinterest crafts a go…

Some Pinterest boards promise life hacks and easy peasy do it yourself tutorials - we’re not so sure about that, but it’s going to be funny to at least try. There are infinite autumn pins – everything from baking, to cooking, to decorations, to couples’ Halloween Costumes

Even if you’re not the crafty type, we hope these Pinterest fails will make you see that it’s the effort that counts.

Make the most of Bonfire Night

Ahh, the 5th November – the day we celebrate a man getting hung, drawn and quartered…

Surprisingly, bonfire night can be a really romantic – pop down to your local firework display and huddle up to keep warm. If you feel like going the extra mile, get sparklers and show off your sporting skillz by winning them a cuddly toy.

Play LOADS of board games

Though they get a bad rap, nothing screams ‘rainy day’ like board games – and nothing shows the true nature of a person quite like losing at Monopoly. There’s a huge range of games out there – so if you’re not a fan of Scrabble, why not try Obama Llama or Exploding Kittens instead?

We promise you - you won’t find a greater joy than watching the light die from their eyes as you take their money, assets, and most of all, pride.

Carve a pumpkin

This is another cheap idea to get into the festive mood – all you need is two pumpkins, clean out their insides and get carving. The only limit is your imagination – create a classic creepy face, or carve the scariest thing you can think of. The best design wins a prize.

Or why not try carving a portrait of your date? What’s the worst that could happen?

“But I’m a skeleton and have ‘no body’ to go with..”

What’s that, we hear you cry? Don’t fret – get yourself over to Flirtify and find yourself a date. It’s free to get started and have a browse. Then when you're ready to make a move you can sign up for a fabulously flexible subscription.

Save 50% this autumn

As autumn is much more fun in a pair, we're offering half price subscriptions for Flirtify - just choose a 1 month, 3 month or 6 month subscription and enter promo code FLIRTIFY50 at checkout.*

Ah, summer. The season of getaways, doing everything outdoors, and most importantly, trying new things.

Whether you believe in the ‘Summer Bucket List’ or not, the internet has some great ideas about what you should be getting up to – some good, some completely bizarre.

Here’s 10 strange summer bucket list items we’ve collected from blogs and Pinterest boards around the world. Prepare to be inspired.

1) ‘Go into an airport and buy tickets for a random flight’

Source

We know we’re all desperate for a week away at this time of the year, but why leave it to chance? Just think of the issues when you turn up in western Siberia in your bikini.

If this is your idea of fun, enjoy that final call for passengers flying over the Bermuda Triangle. Eep.

2) ‘Wash the car in your swimsuit’

Source

Yes, this was actually a suggestion.

Though we’re sure we can pull off the ‘Playboy Bunny’ vibe, we’re actually getting inspo for this from Instagram legend Celeste Barber.

3) 'Dance in the rain'

Source

You know that summer cold you can’t shake off? Yeah, that.

4) 'Bury a time capsule'

Source

We’re intrigued by the idea, but we’re also struggling to think what we’d put in - that abnormally large crisp we’ve been saving to wow friends and family? A photocopy of our Driving Theory certificate?

Excuse us whilst we say a prayer for our valueless lives...

5) 'Sit on a roof and stargaze'

Source

We’re all for cheap/free ideas for the summer –but you know what isn’t cheap?

Replacing roof tiles.

6) 'Say "yes" to everything for a whole day'

Source

We're not going to get into the legal complications of this one- but even so, you’d have to be careful who you tell. Otherwise, you’ll basically be saying ‘yes’ to a whole day of cleaning...

7) Skinny Dipping

Source

Think less sexy glamour and more logistics- how will you get out? Do you have an escape route if you get caught? How will you dry yourself off to get back into your clothes? Are there curious fish in the water? These are all important questions.

8) Build a beach bonfire

Source

It’s probably do-able in the US, but we’re sure we might get more than a few dirty looks if we tried this at Skegness.

You just know someone will bring a few bin bags and aerosols, and drop them right on.

9) Audition for a reality TV show

Source

Potentially a good idea, but which reality TV show will you choose? One where you’re stranded on an island with 12 weirdos? One where you travel all the way to London for a blind date, only to be stood up? Or the one where people accuse you of hoarding in your own home? Decisions decisions.

10) Run through fields of wheat

Source

This one was contributed by a well-known politician: as it ‘May’ seem, it’s a very naughty idea. Although you’ll get a good Instagram picture, you’ll be hurting the feelings of farmers worldwide.

We have a better suggestion for you: why not try Flirtify?

With no wheat fields, rooftops, time capsules - or even swiping left - required, Flirtify is the best way to reawaken your love life this summer.

If you’ve seen the new Heineken ad, you’ll know why it’s all over the internet at the moment: in a nutshell, their ‘social experiment’ puts two deeply incompatible people together with the challenge to build a bar. The big twist is that although they have completely opposing views, they get to know each other and talk through their differences. N’aw.

We’re sure you’ll have much more in common with any dates you get to know this Spring  (Flirtify is a great way of finding people who share the same interests as you!), but it still got us thinking… maybe going on more ‘challenging’ dates will separate the wheat from the chaff, so to speak?

Sure, the chances of having people walk out on you may significantly increase, but the chances of a lukewarm date are dramatically decreased too. Think of it as a form of quality control.
If you’re bored of the coffee/cinema status-quo, here are 10 more testing date ideas that you could try (use at your own risk):

1.    Rock Climbing

Source
You know those office trust exercises where you fall back and expect people to catch you? Rock climbing is basically one of those, especially if your date is expected to belay for you (essentially anchor you to the ground).

This idea will test your date on a multitude of levels; you can monitor their strength, and their reaction to your consistent sweating. You can also watch their crisis management skills kick into gear as you have a panic attack 10 feet off the ground.

2.    Quirky Restaurants…

Source
If you’re looking for more than the usual meat and two veg, why not go for a more bizarre dining experience? There are plenty of weird choices out there - micro courses, insect bars, dining in the dark – you name it.

Though the menu might not be to your appetite, at least you’ll always have something to talk about. And who knows: maybe a bowl of charcoal–infused carrots will bring you closer together.

3.    …or maybe even Cooking Together

Source
Once you’ve found your way around their gas oven (who has one of those anymore?!) you’re all ready to create a candlelit masterpiece for two; why not make it a bit more interesting?

Whether you turn it into a ‘Come Dine With Me’-style competition, or try cooking together, there’s only one golden rule – no food poisoning (especially if you’re planning on staying the night).

4.    Gool ol’ DIY

Source
Whether you’re building a bar or a BILLY bookcase, we all know the IKEA experience can come with its unique set of arguments, folded right into the flat-pack. However, if your date can withstand home improvements from day one, you know you have a keeper.

If there are any quick fixes you need around the house, this idea is a win-win: although the relationship might not, a good paint job lasts forever.

5.    Escape Games

Source
Stockholm syndrome aside, the wave of escape game experiences flooding the UK are the closest things you can get date-wise to a psychometric test. Feel exhilarated as you are literally chained into a room with someone you may not know anything about.

This is a great opportunity to get anything awkward you haven’t mentioned yet out into the open. It’s also a great date idea for people with the mutual interest of dystopian nightmares.

6.    Life Drawing

Source
What could ease the romantic tension better than sitting in a room and staring at someone else’s naked body? It’s an opportunity to show off your artistic prowess/appreciation for the human form, and it’s also really really funny.

If you’re ready to increase the risk, why not suggest taking turns modelling?

7.    Karaoke

Source
Friends of 500 Days of Summer rejoice; Karaoke is a great date idea for extroverts nationwide. What’s more, it’s very future-focused: a test of the quality of shower-singing and road trip playlists to come.

This way, even if the relationship doesn’t work out, you can at least be the next Fleetwood Mac.

8.    Horror film marathon

Source
Today’s streaming services boast a vibrant, diverse choice of cinematic experiences; instead of the The Notebook this Friday night, why not watch something that tests your reflexes? Our suggestions include The Shining, Carrie, The Blair Witch Project and The Human Centipede.

Challenge your better half to Netflix and Thrill (see what we did there?) and wait to see who cracks first.

9.    Unplug for the day

Source
It might not seem like much of a challenge in theory, but give this one a go: no phones, no tablets, no distractions from awkward silences. Your granddad would be proud.

Who knows, your time together may benefit from relying on good, old-fashioned face-to-face communication - as long as they’re into strict rule-enforcement.

10.    Meeting the inlaws

Source
Basically the biggest challenge of all, meeting their parents is like a triathlon: if you’ve managed to dodge the awkward hug/handshake mix-ups and avoid politics at the dinner table, you might fall at the last hurdle by forgetting their names… Remember it’s all about endurance.

For the big thrill-seekers, wear something subtly inappropriate and unexpectedly declare you’re a vegan at the last minute.

If you’re in a relationship for the long-haul, you’re probably well aware that the Honeymoon Period comes and goes quicker than you’d probably like to admit. But that’s life, eh: when sexy underwear gets replaced with a multi-car insurance policy and a slow cooker, you know you’ve moved on to the next stage of your relationship.

Nonetheless, here arise some definite perks: what's more, this often means your significant other becomes more and more like your best pal. And that’s completely worth the constant bickering over who unloads the dishwasher, trust us.

They may not have been featured in Shakespeare’s sonnets, but here are 10 ways that being in a relationship is the best, even without the romance:

1. Sharing food

Source
This is by far the best part of being in a relationship: at a restaurant and can’t decide what you want to eat? No worries: order two plates and swap halfway through.

For the terminal unromantics, make sure you make a clear 50-50 separation on your plate before you start eating.

2. Using them as an excuse

Source
Forgot to pay the rent? Being particularly rubbish at texting back? You can blame everything on your significant other, without them even knowing. Apologising for their tardiness is quicker and easier than actually admitting personal responsibility.

Just don’t forget, this is a mutual agreement; after a few years, your friends will definitely begin to wonder why you put up with how pathetic you make your partner out to be – and vice versa.

3. Being able to let yourself go

Source
Arguably the most challenging part of being in a long-term relationship is coming to terms with how you’ve managed to double your collective body weight since the day you met. Cue identity crisis.

But in all honesty, it just means you’re super comfortable around another human being; the illusion has finally been shed, and it’s fantastic. You let those leg hairs breathe, girl.

4. Presents get good

When you eat, sleep and binge-watch next to someone for a significant amount of time, you have plenty of opportunities to master the subtle hint; it can be quite life changing, getting presents from someone who knows what you already have and what you genuinely want/need. Gift receipts become a thing of the past.

Not only this, but presents can get more and more practical; it might feel like the end of romance as you know it, but there’s a bittersweet joy in receiving that set of wiper blades you’ve been needing for ages.

5. Cooking is easier

Source
Anyone who cooks for one knows the struggle; portion control goes out of the window. Either you end up chucking a significant portion of your handiwork away, or you end up eating the same sodding shepherd’s pie every night for the rest of the week.

It’s hard to hear, but most recipe books don’t cater to the singleton market: cooking for two increases your options, distributes the labour, and also saves the planet from food waste. Win-win-win.

6. Borrowing their stuff

Source
Not only are you blessed in sharing their company for – fingers crossed – the rest of your life, you also get to share all of their possessions: TVs, more expensive furniture, subscription services, even underwear, if you’re daring.

Being in a relationship basically means you double your amount of possessions- as long as you don’t mind the action figure/antique coin collections coming along for the ride too.

7. They’re willing to listen to your every thought

Source
Fancy yourself as a James Joyce? You’ve finally found that one person who will put up with your no-longer-internal monologue all day, every day. They know that their contribution may not be valued, and yet they want to take it all in anyway.

They might even call you out on some of your crappier/more irrational behaviour, leaving you as a more stable, rounded individual. Aw.

8. Road Trips are 100% better

Source
Whether you’re partaking in Route 66 or the obligatory drive-through hangover run, travelling gets instantly better. Not only do you have someone to 50-50 the actual driving with, but your counterpart can offer many other skills, like DJing, navigating, snack sharing, and most importantly keeping you awake.

We’re surprised that having a significant other isn’t a requirement on your insurance policy by now.

9. Candid photo taking

Source
It sounds narcissistic, but here lies a golden opportunity; when you’re tired of the selfie, you can arrange for your non-judgemental partner in crime to take a completely natural-looking, completely staged shot for your Instagram.

Not only does it give the illusion that another human being actually thought you’d make a fascinating subject, you can also give it 50 different tries to ensure you get the angle of your chin just right.

10. Having someone rooting for you every single day

Source
Okay, so this one is kinda romantic: there’s nothing more confidence-boosting and life-affirming than having someone who consistently has your back. Every one of your flaws all of a sudden has the miraculous potential to be endearing. It’s an awful cliché, but when you find someone who will support you through both good and bad times, every day gets a little bit easier. Whether you’re facing a drastic career change, family issues, or a charity 10k, there’s nothing more reassuring than facing it together with someone who knows your every thought and every quirk.

Combine all of this with the occasional romantic renaissance, and maybe the dreaded ‘post-honeymoon period’ doesn’t look too bleak after all.

Valentine’s Day or as it’s called in the land of the singleton – Tuesday.
Dating has become very weird. Sprinkle it with busy schedules and the fact that you don’t have an advanced degree in psychology, you’ll start to understand just what it’s like to date these days.
Before you dive into this confusing world we’ve created an online profile language table so you know what they really mean!

Now for the good bit. Here are the most common stages of online dating and what to expect, we’ve also thrown in a few tips to help you out! Good luck.

Stage 1. Kid in a Candy Shop

Overwhelmed by the feeling you get when you realise there are a bazillion single people like you in your local area? Check out everyone who passes by in public, at the supermarket, the coffee shop, in traffic? Catch yourself zoning out mid-sentence while eating with your friends because a 10/10 just walked in? You probably have the courage to speak to exactly 0 of these people, but still, you noticed. This is good!

Stage 2. High Hopes & Higher Standards

You’ve probably created a list of what you will and won’t accept from a partner. The list is long, detailed and covers everything you want from career status to number of pets. You mould your dating profile around this, making it clear you love to travel but don’t want to leave the house, quirky yet grounded, successful but not too successful and is into sex but never had it.

Stage 3. First Dates

Your profile hooked some promising bites, you’ve bypassed the small talk and it’s time for some dates. You pick the go-to venue (Nando’s) over and over again; the staff probably knows your order like the back of their hand. You smile and nod at the right time, check your phone when it gets awkward and agree to meet up again. You’re not rushing though! Just seeing what’s out there!

Stage 4. Last minute mistakes

When you finish your date, don’t ruin things just as you’re on your path to salvation. Send a thank you text and go with the flow from there. If you don’t hear from them for a day or two after, don’t panic. Coming across as clingy or lacking in confidence may scare off what could have been a happily ever after.

It can be hard, when you so badly want to find “the one,” but getting to know another person takes time and patience. Stick with it, execute these tips and tricks and you’ll be well on your way to relationship status!
Good Luck!
