Top 10 Dates in London

There is so much to do in London that trying to choose the perfect date venue can be a little overwhelming! We've put together a list of our favourite 10 places to help you decide...

1) Dinner at The Modern Pantry

Overlooking St. John’s Square, The Modern Pantry was awarded 4 stars by Time Out London and for good reason!

Their ethos: “the desire to please and excite the palate by fusing everyday cooking with modern ingredients.”

Serving up delicious food with exceptional service, it’s the perfect place if you want to impress. We’d recommend their signature dish, the sugar-cured prawn omelette followed by their chocolate truffles.

2) Rowing on the Serpentine
Nothing says ‘we’re on date’ more than a rowing boat for 2! Hiring a boat is a great alternative to the more traditional dinner and drinks date. Do it Hollywood Romance style and stock up on strawberries and Prosecco for the voyage, and if you’re rowing skills aren’t up to much then you can always hire out a pedalo instead…

 

3) Gordon's Wine Bar

Thought to be the oldest wine bar in London, Gordon’s winebar has been around since 1890! Pull up a chair at one of their rickety candlelit tables and order a bottle from their award winning wine list. They also serve food, from home-made pies to a variety of cheeses.

4) Royal Albert Hall

The Royal Albert Hall is a must visit, whether you’re on a date or not! It’s a beautiful venue that always has loads of interesting shows and concerts on. The hall is steeped in history and has housed performances by famous musicians and world figures since it opened in 1871 – in fact, Wagner, Verdi and Elgar all conducted their first UK performances of their own works on its concert platform!

5) Edible Cinema

Exactly what it says on the tin! Watch cult classics and experience the film through taste too….

 6) Jazz at Ronnie Scott’s

Situated in the heart of Soho, Ronnie Scott's one of the oldest jazz clubs in the world. Since opening in 1959 it has featured most of the legendary and popular names of modern jazz and jazz fusion. Always hosting incredible musicians and bands, from intimate jazz to big band swing, it’s heaven for music and jazz lovers alike!

There are 2 shows every night; we’d recommend going to the late show (starting at 10pm) and sticking around for the late-late show that goes on till the early hours of the morning. Grab a Hendricks, an intimate table for 2 and enjoy the smooth sounds of jazz! You know what they say, “If music be the food of love, play on…”

And speaking of Shakespeare…

7) The Globe

The Globe on Southbank celebrates the work of Shakespeare, throught authenticity and theatrical excellence. The building itself is stunning, and is incredibly evocative of 16^th century theatre (albeit without the heckling, livestock and cabbages!) There are plays on daily; in the afternoon and evening, with plenty of variety.

Tickets are really reasonable, so if you’re on a budget we’d go for the standing tickets. It means you’ll be on your feet for a couple hours but you get a great view and can really soak up the atmosphere.

*TIP: if you do get seats, take a couple of cushions and a blanket. Those wooden benches are not the comfiest!

8) Natural History Museum

You probably went there on a school trip, and can only vaguely remember the big scary dinosaurs, but the Natural History Museum is definitely worth a re-visit! If you and you’re date are into Science then this place is your playground – with over 70 million specimens across botany, entomology, mineralogy, palaeontology and zoology.

To be fair, even if you’re not into science it’s still pretty fun; there’s a life-like moving and
roaring T-Rex AND a Blue Whale. It’s amazing...

9) The Tate Modern

Housing British art from 1900 to the present day and international modern and contemporary art, The Tate Modern is the most visited modern art gallery in the world. Wander around the gallery, admire the artwork and question the concepts. Afterwards, grab a coffee along Southbank to discuss your thoughts; whether you love it, hate it, or just don’t get it, The Tate always inspires conversation!

10) Ice Cream at Harrods

Apologies to any London inhabitants reading this…but for the tourists, you really can’t go to London without visiting Harrods. And if you’ve got a date in tow, you really can’t visit Harrods without sharing a sundae from their Ice-cream Parlour…
