Advise on staying attached this Christmas and avoiding those common festive fallouts...
you're welcome!

Tis the season to be jolly, or so the carol goes. But what happens when it all goes a bit ‘partridge in a pear tree’-shaped?

Dating at Christmas means you have to consider more than just your own family arrangements – and no family is the same. From arguing over where to go to the awful moment you realise they’ve got you a terrible gift we’ve come up with some top tips to help you avoid awkward Yuletide situations at all costs.
Your family or theirs?
Sooner or later, the issue of “whose family should we spend Christmas with?” is bound to come up.
Tricky, as you’ll both have your own holiday traditions and you may not have ever envisaged changing yours, but there will come a time in your life when you’ll have to compromise with the person you’re dating. It’s important that you make this decision before the big day to avoid any table awkwardness - perhaps you could split the day, perhaps you could wake up together and go your separate ways, or meet up in the evening? This should help to avoid a sherry-fuelled fall out!
The awkward moment when…
…you don’t like your present.
Over the years, you’ve probably practised your “Ahh it’s perfect” line on those unwanted knitted scarves and yet another set of PJ’s! However, when dating, honesty is the best policy. So, once you’re away from prying eyes, just gently mention to your partner that while you love the sentiment, you’d perhaps prefer something you’ll wear or use more often (to remind you of them more often) and the gift they’ve got isn’t perhaps what you’d have chosen.
Or, avoid this situation altogether by writing a list of things you’d really love and make sure they know you hate surprises!
Take it easy
While you may not be looking forward to some of your Christmas plans, try and keep your drinking to a minimum – as tempting as it may be to try and calm your nerves with a few mulled wines – keeping the drinking to a minimum will stop you from saying something you could regret later, falling over, or ruining a competitive game of charades!
Who knows, you may enjoy the festivities and potentially create some cherished memories together after all this fretting!

Thank you Facebook!!!!

The only thing worse than breaking up with the person you once couldn’t imagine life without is stumbling across either one, posts of you both in happier times or two, posts of them with their new ‘someone special’ on Facebook.

If it wasn’t bad enough to deal with the heartbreak and sometimes betrayal, nowadays we’re also forced to make big decisions about whether to block or unfriend them – que Facebook.

Facebook to the rescue!

Facebook has stepped in, trialling new tools to make it less painful to be reminded of relationships which are, well kaput.

Don’t want the new guy you’re dating to snoop on your previous relationship? Ta dah! You’ll be able to digitally hide that part of your life (digitally only we’re afraid, we’re not miracle workers). This optional feature will allow you to edit who can see our past posts with an ex and un-tag yourself from posts with that person.

Here’s how...

When users change their relationship status to reflect a break-up they will be prompted to try certain tools. Once implemented, your ex will no longer be suggested when writing a new message or be tagged in photos. This clever little tool will also let you limit the photos, videos or status updates that a former partner will see from you.

Facebook product manager, Kelly Winters posted the news on the sites page saying, ‘We are testing tools to help people manage how they interact with their former partners on Facebook after a relationship has ended’

She explains the work is on-going (in an effort to save us from further heartache) for people who ‘may be going through difficult moments in their lives.’

Facebook knows all about our love lives.

‘We hope these tools will help people end relationships on Facebook with greater ease, comfort and sense of control,’ she added.

Here’s when...

These tools are only available in the US we’re afraid for the moment. They’re currently being tested on mobile devices before Facebook decides whether or not to roll them out to its 1.5 billion users worldwide.

So, if you’re not quite ready to hit the “block” button but you like the sound of eradicating any proof that your previous relationship existed from Facebook, this tool might just help.

…but one no one really wants to have to deal with.

We've all been there; the guy or girl you’re dating just goes quiet. No explanation. No contact. No nothing.
The term ‘ghosting’ is being used more frequently but is in face relatively new – ‘ghosting’ is a new verb that refers to ending a romantic relationship by cutting off all contact and ignoring all attempts of contact.
A recent survey found that from 185 people that approximately 14% of men and 27% of women had been ghosts at some point in their lives.

This phenomenon isn't new - prehistoric daters sat by their phones (those attached to the wall) waiting for their romantic interests to call, and assumed that call must have come when he or she was out of the house. But in an era of dating apps like Tinder and OKCupid when matchmaking often happens by swiping right and left makes potential daters literally disposable so ghosting has become much more common.

The Ease Of App's And Online Dating Has Allowed Ghosting To Take A New Form
Logan Levkoff, sexologist and expert from shows like "Married At First Sight" explained that online dating and apps take the humanity out of the process a bit, which could make users prone to being ghosted. "[Because] all it takes is a swipe," she said. "The quantity [of how many people experience ghosting] is more because it's so easy to do and it requires very little human engagement in order to do it."

Because Breaking Up Is Hard
We don’t actually like it - a study done in 2012 reported that there are seven types of breakup strategies with confrontation being ‘the best way to breakup’, and ghosting the least ideal method to end a relationship. A more recent study reported the same finding suggesting we still feel the same. Only 13% of 1,000 adults consider breaking up electronically ‘very appropriate’ or ‘somewhat appropriate’.
So Why Are So Many People Experiencing ‘Ghosting’?
Our feelings change about a lot of things... about a band, about a food, about certain things you thought were fun that you don’t think are fun anymore and it’s ok for this to happen in a relationship but be a grown up about it.
R-E-S-P-E-C-T
Levkoff said that it’s nice to be able to say to someone, 'Listen I've enjoyed getting to know you, but I don't think this is going to move forward in a romantic way,' because you’re being up front and honest to them and yourself. Would you want to be left staring at your phone for the next fortnight wondering if you’ve done something wrong?
Is Ghosting Morally Wrong?
Yes, lack of response from someone you like feels rubbish! It's a cowardly move.

What We Think
Ghosting – it’s actually just rudeness dressed up
It seems even celebrities the last people who you’d think could slip away aren’t immune to getting ghosted. Reports suggest Charlize Theron broke up with Sean Penn recently by ghosting him - and they were actually engaged to be married - friends say she thought it was the simplest solution to stop responding to his calls!
What The Experts Say
It’s not you, it’s them - time is better spent moving on to the next.
Have you ever experienced ‘ghosting’ or have you been the ‘ghost’?

Do you think the happiest people are having more sex than you? When you think of the deliriously happy couples you know do you assume they’re in and out of the bedroom more frequently than you wash your hair?

Well apparently that’s all one big myth – a recent study has lifted the lid on just how often we should be having sex saying that many satisfied couples actually spend their nights reading in their pajamas!

The study, by the University of Toronto collected data from over 30,000 people to see if happy couples have more or less sex than unhappy ones and published the results in the journal Social Psychological and Personality Science.

Those results say a sweet spot for happy couples everywhere is to have sex once a week.
They did find that more sex meant more happiness, but that there was a limit to the connection and that was the once-a-week mark. (This was the case regardless of age, gender, or length of a relationship.)

So why does satisfaction drop off after once a week? We’re afraid it remains a mystery, but the study authors wrote that couples might feel satisfied if they're having the amount of sex they think is "average" for couples like them and previous studies have found that people tend to report having sex approximately, yep, once a week! So couples who do it that often feel pretty good about themselves.

Researchers did point out that their results shouldn't be the ‘be all and end all’ for more or less sex, but a reason to have a conversation with your partner to find out if you're meeting each other's needs beneath the sheets.

"Our findings suggest that it's important to maintain an intimate connection with your partner, but you don't need to have sex everyday as long as you're maintaining that connection," researcher Amy Muise said in a statement. "It's important to maintain an intimate connection with your partner without putting too much pressure on engaging in sex as frequently as possible."

Books provide us with inspiration; whilst their content might be fiction their impact is as real as anything. And when it comes to love, our dreams are made from the stories we've read. Here are just a few of our favourite quotes....

1) Jane Austen, Sense & Sensibility
"My Heart is, and always will be, yours."

2) A.A Milne, Winnie the Pooh
"If you live to be 100, I hope I live to be 100 minus 1 day, so I never have to live without you."

3) Charlotte Bronte, Jane Eyre
"I have for the first time found what I can truly love. I have found you."

4) F.Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby
"They slipped briskly into an intimacy from which they never recovered."

5) Emily Bronte, Wuthering Heights
"If he loved you with all the power of his soul for a whole lifetime, he couldn't love you as much as I do in a single day."

6) C.S Lewis
"Now at last they were beginning Chapter One of the Great Story no one on earth has ever read, which goes on forever; in which every chapter is better than the one before."

7) Nicholas Sparks, The Notebook

"You are every reason, every hope, and every dream I've ever had, and no matter what happens to us in the future, everyday we are together is the greatest day of my life. I will always be yours."

8) Dr Seuss
"You know you're in love when you can't fall asleep because reality is finally better than your dreams."
