Fear can heighten attraction so can you think of any better time to start dating than Halloween, unless of course you have a huge fear of Santa then you may want to wait a month or two!

This is science!

Forget Valentine’s Day. Halloween is the real festival of love and it’s all down to the science of fear.

A recent study revealed evidence that feeling afraid can trigger the same emotions as we fear when we’re attracted to someone - it’s why taking a date to a horror movie is so popular. Not only is it more acceptable to snuggle into a prospective partners shoulder in an attempt to shield your eyes from a horrible bloody onslaught, but feeling afraid heightens the senses and increases attractiveness and attraction.

It is virtually impossible to separate feelings of sexual attraction from feelings of fear.

The sex hormone Oestrogen plays a crucial role, generating feelings of desire but also alertness and fear. Oxytocin AKA the cuddle hormone is also linked to feeling afraid.

“It’s a good idea to take someone to a scary movie,” said Dr Viren Swami, a psychologist from the University of Westminster, who found that people are more attracted to each other while watching horror films.

Anything that sets the pulse racing is likely to spark romance.

It's the age-old question that makes for many an uncomfortable moment... who
should pay on a date?

Well this question reared its ugly head last night as two daters came to blows over their pricey meal on the Channel 4 series of First Dates - we love this show!

Often the woman offers to split the bill and the man insists on paying. Sometimes the woman doesn't offer and occasionally the man offers to pay the whole bill – First Dates has seen it all, but last was something new entirely….

Elle, a Marilyn Monroe lookalike and fire fighting father of three Mark, got into a little spot of trouble as the bill arrived and Elle refused to pay. Mark was left to pick up the expensive £136.99 bill after his date handed him the receipt and told him to pay.

Mark was then expected to pay for the meal because she just didn't feel like she should have to - it was a tense moment as the confident exclaimed: "Oh you need to pay the bill... Of course I'm giving it to you. I never pay the bill on dates. Why would I?"

We’re speechless!

After perhaps realising how rude it could look on camera, Elle handed over £30 to Mark adding: "I understand your situation you have three babies, of course I'm going to go halves. Well not halves…"
To which a surprised Mark points out: "You haven't gone anywhere near halves!
Mark got even more frustrated with his "high-maintenance" date as she suggested they have more tequila, replying, "No! I'm broke!"
Explaining to the First Dates cameras, away from Elle, Mark said he believed that because she had "encouraged a lot of the drinking" that they should have split the bill.
Because casually hurling the bill at a man you met two hours ago is totally a thing in dating...?
Elle who to insisted on dessert and tequila shots eventually went on to pay £30 towards the meal.
They won't be going on a second date…
Unfazed Elle suggested they meet up as friends!
Elle was adamant she was in the right and added, "I'm just more used to just not having to pay. Usually when you're on a date you get treated nicely, you get treated like a woman.
Mark took a further swipe at Elle's refusal to contribute: "Are we not equal? You're equal when you want us to be. No?"
As the pair entered the booth to talk about their date, Mark said: "I found Elle quite high maintenance. Not the sort of lady I would normally go for."
So, over to you and what you think – should the bill be split?

Recently we shared with you just how much Facebook knows about your love life - we were surprised and also slightly concerned, but it turns out Facebook not only knows about love, it can lead to love too!

Finding true love online is becoming more common these days - unless of course you find true love with the stranger thousands of miles away whose Facebook account is mysteriously logged into your phone.

Schuler Benson and Celeste Benson, formerly Celeste Zendler, who now both live in South Carolina got married earlier this year on June 21st - six years after Schuler tried to sign into his Facebook account and accidently ended up on Celeste's page instead. Understandably Schuler was puzzled why he was on someone else’s page who lives 1,000 miles away from him in Colorado and who had no mutual friends with – what would you do?

Schuler wrote this status update: 'is wondering who the hell Celeste is and why I’m logged into her fb account,' on October 3, 2009. Later posting: 'How do you log out of fb mobile? I'm not celeste and I have no idea how I got on here'.

Eventually Schuler was able to log out of Celeste's account but then shortly after Celeste sent him a Facebook request and posted her own message: 'wants to know how some stranger managed to log into my account without meaning to?? Way to go Facebook!'.

Celeste admitted that she intended to delete Schuler after a few days but the two began chatting and realised they had lots in common. Schuler said, 'It turns out we had a lot in common. Like, a LOT in common. We became close friends online and finally met in person in June of 2013'.
Then in 2013 Celeste relocated from Colorado to live with Schuler in Arkansas, he proposed shortly afterwards and the couple moved to South Carolina.

Schuler posted on Facebook , 'I found my partner, my best friend, my great love via a simple glitch in social media'.

Congratulations Schuler Benson and Celeste Benson from us here at Flirtify x

Don't leave your love story to a technical glitch - join Flirtify today!
Recently Facebook celebrated one billion users logging in, the largest amount ever on a single day. So you wouldn’t be wrong in thinking that with so many members, Facebook has a lot of data about its users, myself included – after all it has an entire data science division dedicated to interesting information!

You interact on Facebook like no other way in your life
After all, you wouldn’t tell someone in the street that you’ve cleaned the house this morning, hung the washing out and had a bacon sandwich for breakfast would you? But we do exactly that on Facebook. We share exciting news, sad news, and even when we’re going on holiday. We also share things about our relationships. ..

So what does it know?
In 2014, Facebook did a number of studies around the topic of love. Many of the results weren’t a big surprise but not all were obvious - here are some things Facebook has learned from looking at your relationship status…

The age difference between same-sex couples is larger
This may not come as a surprise - in relationships between men and women the man tends to be older (by an average of 2.4 years) however, the same can’t be said for same sex couples who tend to have a larger age gap, reaching an average of 8 or 9 years.

People break up in the summer
So you've both changed your statuses and made it official. How long is it likely to stay that way? Facebook found that the biggest predictor of how likely you are to stay together is how long you've been together already. For each month, that passes the probability of breaking up decreases - not so surprising.
Summer seems to be the time for breakups and perhaps the extra-large spike in 2011 is due to the economy?

A suddenly ‘single’ status can really kick start your Facebook interactions

The data science team looked at people "who were on the receiving end of a separation"—they had been in a relationship for at least four weeks when their partner switched their relationship status to "Single." The number of interactions, including messages, posts, and comments received, showed a big spike on the day of separation, followed by an overall increased level of interaction that lasted for weeks afterwards.

Facebook friends may not be the same thing as real-world friends, but they sure can come through for you when you need them.

Read more about when Facebook become a step and why it's not ok to use your phone on a date - updating your status is no exception!
